I had to work New Year's Eve on the day shift and New Year's Day also on the day shift. It meant that I had just enough time to come home from work, make dinner, clink a glass of champagne to ring in the new year with Jens and then hit the sheets to be up at 4 in the morning on January 1, 2012. I knew that I would be tired but I also knew that I would be able to catch a few Z's at the office and since I would be the only one in my department, nobody would know the wiser. Wrong - it turned out to be surprisingly busy and I ended up sleepy eyed for the entire shift. All of this made me forget that I had even taken a few photos of our New Year's celebration. I just now found these photos as I was taking more photos today of the nice ice - see my next blog.
Anyway............. January has come and gone and we are all well on our way into the new year.
I hope that the stars are lined up in the best possible position to bring you
a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2012.
It was a fishy celebration . We started out with seafood hor d'oeuvres. The basics here are salmon, caviar, shrimp and crab on blinis. They were delicious.
For the 1st course, I steamed the left over mussels that I made for our French evening when my friend Anne came by for dinner. I had a huge package of fresh local mussels but made only half and saved the other half for new year's dinner. It looked nice but for some reason they didn't survive the freezer - what a disappointment. But pigs that we are, we managed to suck up the rest of the goodies.
The main course was a
Shooting Star - fish and seafood on fresh bread - major delicious.
Last but not least is the traditional New Year's marzipan clock and champagne which is to be consumed at the stroke of 12.
